What is Slack?

Slack is a communication tool that is typically used by teams to stay in touch with one another. Its original intent was to replace routine email communication, but we’ve found it has potential for communication with and among online students. Take a look at the video below for a more in-depth explanation.

Slack is designed for creating community, and we think it has potential for fostering academic community online.  It allows members (in this case, students) to be in contact more often, in a relatively casual environment, around a set of topic groups that can be shaped by you.

In addition to its chat functionality, Slack is able to integrate with a large number of add-on applications. The list is quite diverse; you can get a full list on the Slack website.
